It was a hot august morning... I was already ten days passed my due date, my belly was abnormally large and I could feel the time had come. Afraid of the baby being too big, I had asked the doctor the day before to tell me the approximate weight- he said that the baby wouldn't weigh more than 8.5 pounds and for me not to worry. My water broke at five a.m. but my mother was home with me and since she is a doctor and could monitor me, we decided to wait for the birth to be well underway before going to the hospital. I told my husband to go back to bed and my mother and I practiced the noesitherapy teachings so that I could patiently wait for my son to make his way. At 9am, 4 hours later, I took a shower, fixed my hair, got dressed and even put on a little make-up. I was able to hold it out until 11am. I then saw it was time to go so I called Dr. Escudero and asked for a few words before going into the hospital. He gave me courage and I went in. They immediately told me I was in labor but that it usually takes many hours to finish dilating in a first child-birth. I went in dilated 3cm and asked for them not to give me anything- especially no oxitocin. To their amazement, in one hour and a half I had finished dilating, but since everything happened so fast, my contractions came one right after another and they were all reaching the top of the monitor (they were very strong) so I got nervous and lost my concentration for a little while, I have to admit- I recommend you try to keep calm because it definitely wasn't pretty. When I was able to put myself together again they asked me to begin pushing, but no matter how hard I pushed, Pablo, my son, wouldn't come down. Afraid that I had been pushing for an hour and a half and the baby was beginning to suffer, the doctors decided to give me an anesthetic because they would have to either use forceps or practice a c-section. They quickly took me into the delivery room, but I asked everyone to stop because I wanted my husband to see his child being born so it had to be a natural childbirth. One of my friends had shown me a nice technique to push so I asked them to let me push just one more time. I gave them the biggest push I could and the nurses began screaming "tell the husband to come, the baby is here!" I only pushed three times, but my episiotomy had to be huge- we then realized why he wouldn't come down-the gynecologist cut once and then again.... Pablo was huge! He weighed almost 11 pounds- nothing close to what the gynecologist had told us the day before. He was a beautiful boy and breastfed right there while they were sowing my cut. I was the happiest mom in the world... Here are a few pictures. The first one is of me at the door of the hospital dilated 3cm, the second is of Pablo 5 minutes after being born and the third is of me right after giving birth.

Dear Ana,

Great birth story!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I can't believe how big of a baby Pablo was, you are a champion!!!By the way, what was that pushing strategy that you used that got the baby out?? was it on your hands and knees by any chance??

Have a great day,

Vanessa
